​Warangal: The second phase ‘Telangana Haritha Haram’ has been launched amid festive mood here on Friday.At a programme held at Rampur on the outskirts of city, Tourism Minister A Chandulal has planted a sapling formally commencing the 15-day plantation drive in the district. He said the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has initiated Haritha Haram with an objective to benefit the future generations.

Explaining the importance of the programme, the Minister has called upon all the citizens to actively take part in planting saplings during the next 14 days and also to take care of the saplings. Collective efforts were needed to place the district at top place in the plantation programme and expand the green cover.

ZP chairperson G Padma, GWMC mayor N Narender, MLAs D Vinay Bhasker, T Rajaiah and K Surekha have also stressed on the need of the enthusiastic participation by public in the programme in order to tackle the growing environmental pollution. It was aimed to plant 46 crore saplings in the State, they said.

Mayor Narender, who clicked a ‘Green Selfie with Plant’, a contest launched on July 1 in Hyderabad, said under GWMC limits 13 points were set up for distribution of saplings. It was aimed to plant 1.10 lakh plants grown up to eight feet length by the sides of the roads. Personnel from Kadiyam nursery would take care of the plants, he added.

District Collector V Karuna informed that nearly 2,000 saplings were planted covering a distance of five kilometres on either side of Warangal-Hyderabad highway between Rampur and Madikonda on the first day. About 1.40 crore teak saplings of the total 3.44 crore plants, would be planted on the farm bunds, she added.

Rural superintendent of police AK Jha, commissioner of police G Sudheer Babu, deputy mayor Khaja Sirajuddin, forest officials, corporators, officials of different government departments and school children took part in the programme. The Minister administered ‘Vana Pratigna’ on the occasion.

At TSNPDCL head office, the company CMD, K Venkata Narayana planted saplings along with the company director B Venkateswar Rao.
At District Police Training Centre in Madikonda, Warangal range DIG T Prabhakar Rao took part in the plantation programme while at Kakatiya University in-charge registrar Prof G Benerjee, NSS coordinator Prof B Digambara Rao and others planted about 2,000 saplings as part of the programme.
