Hyderabad: The Hans India team stumbled upon another death trap at Anutex Junction in Malkajgiri in the form of an uncovered gutter, which has been damaged further recently when the road was re-laid.Thousands of commuters travel through the densely populated Anutex junction area to reach Anand Bagh and Safilguda.

Residents living in and around the junction claim that Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation authorities have turned a blind eye to the issue even though repeated reminders were sent to cover the manhole which has the capacity to gobble up multiple pedestrians.

Residents here rue that corporation officials as a part of de-siltation work damaged the storm water drain on the prime road in the Malkajgiri. Interestingly, GHMC authorities are yet to re-construct the damaged structure. The ever-flowing storm water drain has been steadily eroding the BT road in the vicinity, increasing the vulnerability to children and elderly people who commute through the area.

J Sowjanya, a pushcart vendor, said: "The dangerous gutter and storm water drain is an accident-prone site. It has the capacity to claim several lives at a time. It was the GHMC authorities who have damaged gutter and the storm water drain". She alleged that despite several complaints with the GHMC, the issue remains unresolved for several months.

A commuter, P Pavan Kumar, said: “Several minor accidents have been witnessed in the area. During rainy season, the overflowing storm water swallows everything in its vicinity. In addition, the foul smell emanating from it has been a breeding site for mosquitoes and stray dogs.”

When contacted, a GHMC official said that they would inspect the area and try to fix the open gutter.
