Nizamabad: On account of rains under the impact of low pressure area in the city, the threat of spreading endemic diseases like malaria, dengue, chicken guinea cholera and so on because of the water logging and prevailing unhygienic conditions in urban and rural areas. But the district administration is reported to have taken no precautions at all.

Shortage of medical and para-medical staff in government hospitals is posing a problem to tackle the seasonal diseases.

There are 44 primary health centers, 375 sub-centers, three Area Hospitals, 12 urban health Centers, seven community health centers are operational in the district.

Last year, 243 dengue cases were registered of which 18 were fatal. Officials failed to held the dengue cases in check. The district recorded 250 gastroenteriitis cases and 7,908 cases dehydration last year. Besides, the district recorded 257 typhoid cases, 1.17 lakh fever cases. Over 158 were hospitalized last year because of food poisoning. Of the 17 swine flu cases recorded last year, three cases proved fatal.

This year so far, 2750 dehydration cases, 20 typhoid cases, 59,122 fever cases were recorded. Over 130 were hospitalized because of food poisoning. The medical and health department is keeping a tight upper lip over the number of dengue cases recorded.

Many medical officer posts in the health department are required to be filled. The District Medical and Health Officer post and that of additional district medical and health officer, district immunization officer post, district leprosy officer posts remained vacant.

Besides, the posts of 10 deputy civil surgeon, 8 assistant civil surgeons, one statistical officer, eight head nurses, 108 ANM vacancies, 10 pharmacist posts, 14 lab technician posts, 36 staff nurse vacancies and 130 male health assistant posts remained vacant in the district.
As crucial medical officer posts remained unfilled, it has its impact at the field level medical services. To extend better medical amenities, the state government should immediately fill these vacancies.

The people are in the grip of fear about the spread of seasonal diseases. Because of lack of sanitation in remote villages, the diseases like gastroenteritis, malaria and diarrhea are likely to outbreak. In spite of many people laid down with seasonal diseases, the medical and health establishment is accused of failing to hold them under check.
