Hyderabad: The government on Wednesday suspended a deputy tehsildar and four other employees in Nizamabad after they failed to implement Haritha Haram progamme in their mandal.

District Collector Yogita Rana suspended the five employees after they failed to furnish reports on the implementation of the State government’s mega plantation drive in their mandal.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma on Wednesday asked the Heads of Departments to ensure that the intended target for plantation during Haritha Haram was met as per schedule.

The Chief Secretary reviewed the progress of the programme at Secretariat here, and suggested the Forest Department to submit special proposals for sanctioning of funds for Haritha Haram. He asked the officials to provide plants as per the needs of the people.

The CS directed the Irrigation and Forest Department officials to coordinate plantation drive in foreshore and lake areas and asked them to procure teakwood plant saplings from neighbouring States as there was huge demand of that variety of saplings from local people.

Regarding fruit-bearing plants, the CS directed officials to procure them from private nurseries if needed as per the rules. “Care should be taken to protect the saplings that are planted,” he said and asked officials to erect fencing around the trees in densely populated areas.

Panchayat Raj Principle Secretary SP Singh said that his Department was planting saplings along the sides of 24,000 km Panchayat Raj roads utilising MGNREGS. He said Rs 800 crore was being spent on Haritha Haram under the employment guarantee scheme.

Municipal Department Special Secretary MG Gopal said arrangements were made to take up plantation drive on a large scale on July 18 in municipalities.
