Hyderabad: In a major development, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's Standing Committee on Thursday decided to take up the long pending road widening works at Uppal and Mindspace junction for the construction of multilevel flyovers and skyways under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP).

The committee, under the chairmanship of Bonthu Rammohan, unanimously approved all 12 agenda items that were tabled at the third standing committee meeting.

The proposal was to acquire land and properties more than the SRDP master plan. The corporation now would acquire properties for the SRDP through private negotiation or as per feasibility under the project recommended by the state government.

The standing committee members have also given nod to reduce the Swachh auto tipper beneficiary contribution from 20 per cent (Rs 84,000) to 10 per cent (Rs 42,000).

They said that the beneficiary contribution would be borne by GHMC while operations would be handed over to the residential welfare associations. The RWAs would appoint a driver under driver-cum-owner scheme for transporting the garbage from their respective colonies.

The remaining approved agenda items were pertaining to road widening. The standing committee members have also requested GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy to enhance the honorarium to outsourcing sports coaches.

In response to a query by members, the commissioner said that the proposals are in the process and GHMC was trying to provide playgrounds to educational institutions for taking up sporting activities at nominal rent.

The GHMC mayor and commissioner appealed to the standing committee members to take up the responsibility of convincing property owners to part with the land needed for road widening projects.
