Selfie contest for social cause
GWMC Mayor Narender introduced a novel scheme, called “Selfie kottu-gift pattu”, a scheme to help the corporation accomplish the goal of planting over 15 lakh saplings in Warangal, Hanamkonda and Kazipet. Three best selfies would be given awards during the Independence Day celebrations.
Warangal: The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation’s Greenselfie app is evoking good response from youth, students and the
literate and also from people’s representatives.
GWMC Mayor Narender introduced a novel scheme, called “Selfie kottu-gift pattu”, a scheme to help the corporation accomplish the goal of planting over 15 lakh saplings in Warangal, Hanamkonda and Kazipet. Three best selfies would be given awards during the Independence Day celebrations.
The extensive propaganda to the scheme evoked good response from people. Students were clicking their selfies of planting saplings in colleges and posting them to the Greenselfie app.
According to municipal corporations, the application received over two lakh selfies. Even people’s representatives are clicking their selfies with plants to sensitise people on the plantation drive. Warangal West legislator Vinay Bhaskar uploaded his selfie into the application.
Kakatiya Univesity Engineering College student P Srividya said that students are getting their selfies clicked for a social cause instead of risking their lives for a selfie. It surely is advisable in the present era of selfies, she added.
According to the city mayor, so far over 2.10 lakh saplings were planted in the three cities as part of the vigorous campaign. He said that a Greenselfie application was designed to accomplish the goal of planting over 15 lakh saplings.
