The two-judge bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip Bhosale and Justice AV Sesha Sai on Monday closed two writ appeal filed by the Election Commission of India on the earlier elections held to the erstwhile AP Legislative Council.

The two writ appeals arose from writ pleas filed by E Rangarayyapa and K Satyanarayana Reddy, questioning certain directions given by a single judge. The writ pleas related to elections from the Graduate constituency and the local bodies constituency to the Upper House.

The petitioner in one of the writs had questioned the removal of his name from the list and had obtained an order that he be permitted to participate in the elections. Aggrieved by the order, the present writ appeal, one from East Godavari and the other from Warangal, represented by educationist Chukkala Ramiah, were challenged by the Election Commission of India.

The bench on Monday pointed out that the cause would not survive as the elected term of the members had since expired. The bench, however, left all the questions raised by the ECI open.
