Hyderabad: Citing instances of alleged terror suspects being acquitted after spending years in jail, several civil society groups have demanded a judicial inquiry and an advocate commission to examine the recent arrests of six terror suspects by the NIA.

In their representation to Telangana State Minorities Commission Chairman Abid Rasool Khan on Thursday, International Sikh Centre, Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee (CLMC), Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR), CPS, Peoples Democratic Movement, Awami Majlis-e-Amal and Awaaz demanded that the Commission take up the issue.

The organisations which recently constituted a fact finding committee found “foul play” in the arrest of the youth and alleged that a nexus amongst Facebook account holders, paid informers and the intelligence department trapped the young men.

They found that in many cases earlier, the security agencies which framed the educated youth in “fake cases” could not prove it in the courts later.

They cited examples of Makkah Masjid blast, Akshardham blast, Malegaon blast and terror related cases of Karnataka, where all the accused (more than 100) were acquitted after being imprisoned for years.

“The investigation authorities are taking years together to frame the charges and could not substantial their claims through evidence. Therefore the courts are acquitting them after 8 to 23 years,” they pointed out.
