Become self-sufficient, KTR exhorts Water Board
Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K Taraka Rama Rao on Saturday directed the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board officials to focus on making the board financially self-sufficient. He told them that they should not depend on the government for funds forever.

He told them that they should not depend on the government for funds forever.
He instructed the officials to take necessary measures to minimise the water loss and increase the revenue by installing water metres to all water connections in the city. KTR participated in a review meeting at Water Board headquarters at Khairatabad.
Speaking on the occasion, KTR asked the Water Board officials to fix metres to every water connection in order to gauge the wastage of water. He said the Water Board was able to collect only 60 per cent of revenues and asked them to concentrate on improving it.
He said out of 8.70 lakh water connections there are only 1.65 water metres in the city. He felt that the new water supply connections can be increased duly by verifying the data of comprehensive household survey and GHMC database. The connections data of other cities with reference to number of households also can be verified to provide more tap connections.
KTR said the expenditure of the Water Board has been more than its revenues. He said the Water Board on monthly basis has been generating Rs 85 crore, while its expenditure was Rs 114 crore. About Rs 700 crore pending dues had piled up with the HMWS&SB.
He asked the Water Board officials to constitute focus groups on various tasks to generate new ideas for implementation and establish innovative technical cell.
