Hyderabad: With the lifting of ban on transfers and postings by the state government recently, officials have begun efforts to get posts of their choice on deputation in different departments hitting the governance at all levels in Telangana.

The most sought-after departments are Revenue and Municipal Administration and Urban Development which had received the highest number of applications from the officials seeking posts on deputation from their parent departments. Interestingly, officials of the Forest and Environment department, Medical and Health, Finance and Rural Development department were also vying for key posts in these departments.

Nearly 2000 employees working at different levels, including Group 2 and another 3000 at UDC (Upper Division Clerk) level, have sought the government to transfer them on deputation. The secretariat staff at the ASO (Assistant Section Officer) level and SO (Section Officers) level also joined the race for the posts.

Official sources said the MA&UD is scrutinizing applications to select suitable candidates to work as municipal administrators and project directors under MEPMA (Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas) for which the demand is high. Some orders have already been issued.

Similarly, Revenue department has been flooded with applications for the appointment of Revenue Inspectors and Deputy Tahsildars which fell vacant in a big number in the state. The employees who underwent training in their services in land revenue are the front runners for the coveted posts.

A reason for increase in the demand for posts in these two departments is the implementation of new development programmes in urban areas and government initiatives like creation of new districts and development zones in the revenue mandals. “Department heads are crying foul over the transfer of their officials to other wings as the number of personnel is already low. Due to pressure from employees’ associations, government is not in a position to withhold deputations at the moment,” a senior official said.
