Hyderabad: Accusing Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of not doing enough to support Public Sector Units (PSUs) in Telangana, Joint Action Committee (JAC) chairman Prof M Kodandaram asked the State government to strengthen PSUs on priority and not end up in a financial mess that prevailed during Chandrababu Naidu’s rule in 2004.

Speaking at a round table conference organised by the Telangana Public Sector Employment Federation on Tuesday, he said undermining PSUs would alienate people. Demanding bifurcation of PSUs, he pointed out that as per the 9th schedule of AP Reorganisation Act, sharing of units between AP and Telangana should have already begun. “The failure of government to focus on the issue reflects its disregard for PSUs, which could benefit a large section of the population,” he said.

Educationist G Haragopal observed that the State government had lost focus on good governance as each of its decision had gone against a major section of the people. “Our State budget is Rs 1,30,000 crore and it is rather strange that the State government cannot afford to allocate budget for the development of PSUs,” he said.

Justice B Chandra Kumar pointed out that non-availability of the required strength of employees in the Telangana State Housing Corporation Limited (TSHCL) had affected productivity. “Apparently, the economy gets eroded if this is not rectified,” he said.
