Sangareddy: Farmers’ Producers Companies (FPC) are being formed in Medak district by forming farmers into groups to help themselves in planning, taking care of production aspects and to market their farm produce in an effective manner. Four groups have already been formed in Medak district and more are going to come in the near future.

In a programme held at the District Collectorate on Thursday by the Horticulture Department to spread awareness about organic farming to farmers, the horticulture officials revealed the same to the farmers.

As per the new effort, farmers at village or mandal-level can form groups and get registered through provisions of Companies Act with assistance from Horticulture department. They would initially have to deposit Rs 1,000 per head in a bank account and Rs 50 for registering the organisation.

The farmers can employ an educated person who can communicate to them what the horticulture officials suggest for a particular season and they can plan accordingly. The farmers have the advantage of getting a good discount on fertilisers and pesticides (organic and otherwise), as they can go for bulk procurement.

Marketing of their produce can be effectively planned and carried-out based on the decision the group makes. Profits are distributed among the farmers in the group as per their share. The salary of the employee would be paid from the profits and operating costs.

Initially it was decided that at least 500 farmers need to be there to form a group, but as of now, a group of even 15 farmers is being registered. Some of the members of the group would be made directors of the group.

Horticulture officials also announced the various subsidies being given to the farmers growing vegetables and the highly subsidised poly house farming.
