Tenders for AMRUT works to be called soon
The State government will shortly invite tenders for taking up works pertaining to drinking water and sanitation in 12 AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) cities in the State.
​Hyderabad: The State government will shortly invite tenders for taking up works pertaining to drinking water and sanitation in 12 AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) cities in the State.
Recently, Ministry of Urban Development selected Hyderabad, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Siddipet, Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Ramagundam, Khammam and Miryalaguda under AMRUT. The aim of the scheme is to provide basic facilities like water supply, sewerage, urban transport and building amenities which would improve the quality of residents' lives, especially the poor and the disadvantaged.

The Centre had recently sanctioned Rs 554 crore for 2016-17 to Telangana under AMRUT. According to officials Urban Development department, works would commence once the tender process gets completed. Meanwhile, the officials prepared plans for providing basic infrastructure.
The process of finalising and issuing tenders is done by the public health department. As soon as the tender process ends, works would be started, said officials.
The State government is utilising more funds on drinking water schemes. A State- level technical committee that was formed to finalise works being taken up under the scheme had sent the proposals to Centre. The Centre too had given its consent for the works, said a senior official.
Under AMRUT, the Centre provides 50 per cent funds for works and the State government should bear 20 per cent and the remaining should be generated by the urban local body.
