Hyderabad: To improve sanitation in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K Taraka Rama Rao on Tuesday distributed 176 Swachh auto tippers, 25 refuse compactors and 18 sweeping machines.

He said the GHMC would phase out 15-year-old vehicles and replace them with new vehicles in the sanitation wing. He said old dumper bins would be replaced with modern galvanised dumpers bins, which would be rust-free.

He said the Corporation had already distributed 1,824 Swachh autos and 44 lakh dustbins to carry dry and wet garbage separately. The additional 176 Swachh autos would help in improving sanitation in the city. The Minister said Swachh autos would be distributed to tricycle workers on a priority.

The Minister said manual manhole cleaning would be completely stopped in the State. Mechanised manhole cleaning would be introduced to put an end to incidents like the one in Madhapur which claimed the lives of four persons.

He said the State government would offer an outsourcing job to the kin of the bereaved families. The Minister further added that modern equipment would be given to workers who clean sewer lines.

Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy and others participated in the meeting.
