Hyderabad: Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday accused the State government of adopting undemocratic methods either to acquire land under Mallannasagar project or in bringing changes in the education and health sectors.
Party Telangana State Secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram made these remarks, while addressing the three-day party plenary session, which began at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram.
He called upon like-minded public figures like M Kodandaram and Justice Chandrakumar to come on a single platform to fight for social justice and people’s rights.
Veerabhadram said ‘Bangaru Telangana’ would be a reality only when the socio-economic status of the downtrodden improved, and not by making mere statements. The Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward people accounted for 92 per cent of 3.5 crore population of the State.
Over 85 per cent of the people were living below the poverty line. “How can we achieve Bangaru Telangana if the socio-economic status of the downtrodden people is not improved,” he asked.
The CPI (M) leader said the State government promised to give three acre land to SCs and STs, but failed to take it forward. He alleged that the State government was taking away podu lands of the tribals.
Stating that the State government had neglected both health and education sectors, he alleged that the government was following the footsteps of the erstwhile governments by encouraging the corporate sector and closing down thousands of government schools.
The CPI (M) said the State government had failed miserably reining in private schools from forcibly collecting high fee from students.
The government had also failed in its promise to provide a job to each household. He alleged that the State government had been indulging in the project re-designing with the sole aim of looting public money.
He said the government had been deliberately enhancing the irrigation project estimates. The estimates for Pranahita-Chevella project had been increased by Rs 85 crore.
He also made it clear that the CPM party was not opposed to the construction of projects, but were only against the undemocratic methods being adopted to construct them.
