The Secunderabad-headquartered South Central Railway (SCR) earned Rs 47 crore by running a total of 691 special trains during the Krishna Pushkaralu, held between August 12 and 23, 2016. In comparison to 2004, this time SCR put into service 295 more trains and the passenger traffic touched 41 lakh.

Hyderabad: The Secunderabad-headquartered South Central Railway (SCR) earned Rs 47 crore by running a total of 691 special trains during the Krishna Pushkaralu, held between August 12 and 23, 2016. In comparison to 2004, this time SCR put into service 295 more trains and the passenger traffic touched 41 lakh.

Elaborate all round arrangements made by the SCR enabled the Zone register a record high in terms of passenger volumes during the period, on its network. In addition to the special trains, 4,871 coaches were augmented by various trains, over 200% increase as compared to the previous Krishna Pushkaralu.

A total of 26 emergency trains were run based on dynamic analysis of passenger traffic trends by utilising extra rakes kept in readiness to cater to sudden rush and the regularity remained above 96%, said M Umashankar Kumar, chief public relations officer, SCR.

The SCR spent Rs 35 crore to provide facilities for passengers which include temporary/additional waiting sheds, ticketing counters, toilets, drinking water, cafeteria, enquiry counters, medical aid, wheel chairs, CCTV surveillance system, public announcement system.

The introduction of mobile ticket booking and enquiry vans stationed at various Pushkar Ghats and the GPRS-based hand-held mobile terminals for issue of rail tickets proved a boon for the rail users. Over 2,000 additional railway personnel were deputed for temporary duty during the period, who included 1,250 Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and 450 commercial staff.
