KTR, Etela’s silence baffles cadres
Karimnagar/Warangal: What is baffling the TRS cadres these days more than the composition of the new districts is the stoic silence maintained by two Karimnagar district ministers KT Rama Rao and Etela Rajender. Though KTR is considered to be the heir apparent to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, the initial hype surrounding Sircilla died down fast even before the government released the draft report for the creation of new districts. It may be noted here that facing a widespread criticism from all quarters, the government didn’t include Sircilla in the proposed districts.
However, with people in Warangal region stringently opposing to the proposed Hanamkonda district, speculation is rife that government is likely to dust off this move and continue parts of Huzurabad constituency (which are incorporated in Hanamkonda district as per the draft) in Karimnagar district, and to revert to its earlier plan of projecting Sircilla district again, if sources are to be believed.
Albeit none of the TRS legislators or others who occupied top positions in the government has guts to raise their objections over the draft report, it’s apparent there is an undercurrent of dissidence which they cannot express their opinion openly. Ever since it was discarded from the new districts’ list, there has been a huge uproar in Sircilla as the locals feel they were betrayed.
This could be a major concern for KTR. Elsewhere people in Husnabad and Koheda mandals are vehemently opposing their union with the proposed Siddipet district. They wanted to continue with Karimnagar. As a result, these areas have been witnessing protests and bands.
Sources say that Husnabad MLA V Sathish Kumar, son of Rajya Sabha MP Captain Laxmikantha Rao who is said to be close aid of KCR, is concerned about the ongoing agitation and its repercussions in the next elections.
On the other hand, Finance Minister E Rajender, who is tightlipped about the merger of majority of mandals of his constituency Huzurabad with the proposed Hanamkonda district, is said to be unhappy over the development as he wants his entire constituency continue in Karimnagar, according to highly placed sources.
But the perception of the politicos in Warangal district, who are opposing Hanamkonda district tooth and nail, is other way around. The leaders, especially the Congress and Telugu Desam, strongly believe that Hanamkonda district is being carved out only to create a niche for Etela Rajender and Captain’s family.
Meanwhile, the Warangal district administration has so far has received 656 objections/suggestions in regard with the proposed Hanamkonda district; 351 for Prof. Jayashankar district; 35 for Mahabubabad district; 125 for Warangal district. Of the 656 objections/suggestions, majority of them are against the formation Hanamkonda district, it’s learnt. In Karimnagar district, proposed Peddapally district attracted 241 objections/suggestions; 226 Karimnagar; 22 Jagityal.
