​Hyderabad: National Thermal Power Corporation Limited Regional Executive Director V B Fadnavis on Monday launched 120 CC cameras that were installed under Kamatipura police station limits in Hyderabad.

The NTPC had given Rs 1 crore as part of Corporate Social Responsibility to the Hyderabad City Police to install the CC cameras in Kamatipura.

“We at NTPC are happy to partner with the Hyderabad City Police. Along with generating power, we also want to do some social service. NTPC had earlier built schools, roads, toilets, donated books and sports infrastructure to the school students and several other things. Now we joined hands with the Hyderabad police in making the city safer,” said V B Fadnavis.

He said that installation of CC cameras helps police to detect crimes and also ensure faster conviction through electronic evidences. “Such an initiative was not even taken in cities like New Delhi and Mumbai. I wish Hyderabad becomes a safer city for people of India,” he said.

Speaking at the occasion, City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy said NTPC had set an example for other corporate companies by donating Rs 1 crore to install CC Cameras in Kamatipura and other neighboring areas. Several corporate companies were following this initiative and donating money as part of CSR, to make Hyderabad a better city, he said.

Every global city including London is monitored through CC cameras. It has become the best city in the world, and the government wants to transform Hyderabad in similar manner. Cameras protect the law abiding citizens and they will catch the law violators. To make old city safer and happy place, we appeal to corporate companies to come forward and partner with the Hyderabad City Police, said the commissioner.

Later, the Power Grid Corporation Limited (PGCL) also signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Hyderabad City Police for installation of CC cameras in Old City of Hyderabad. The PGCL has donated Rs 75 lakh for installation of the cameras.

Commissioner Mahender Reddy said that the CC cameras have helped in reducing 14 per cent crimes in 2015, when compared to that of 2014. We are expecting to reduce crime rate to zero in Hyderabad.

Addressing the gathering at the event, PGCL Executive Director V Shekar said “Hyderabad is the safest city in India. The initiative of the Hyderabad police is very bold and it will help in executing preventive policing. The novel idea has to be taken forward and PGCL is proud to partner with the police to make the city safer.”

PGCL Assistant General Manager (HR) DR Murthy, Additional Commissioner (Law & Order) V V Srinivas Rao, Joint Commissioner (Administration) Murali Krishna, Joint Commissioner (Special Branch) P Pramod Kumar and other officers were present at the event.
