Hyderabad: Heavy rains since Wednesday morning lashed many parts of the Telangana State throwing the normal life completely out of gear. Water logging and inundation of low-lying areas has been reported due to the rains that started in the morning and continued for several hours. The incessant rains caused severe damage to the crops. Rivulets and streams are in spate disrupting the commuting to several villages.

The active movement of Southwest Monsoon over Telangana resulted in heavy showers. Peddemul in Ranga Reddy district received the highest rainfall on Wednesday with 22 mm followed by 21 mm in Parigi and 13 mm in Gandeed of the same district which was maximum rainfall in the season.

Choutuppal, Pochampalli, Narayanapuram, Hujurnagar, Kodad mandals of Nalgonda districts witnessed downpour. Paleru rivulet in Vemulapalli, Miryal aguda mandal and River Musi are flowing at danger levels. Culverts at many places have been damaged.

Heavy rains battered many places in Mahbubnagar district. Kesari Samudram tank in Nagarkurnool received heavy inflows. Tanks at Dararam, Rayavaram, Peddakunta are full to the brim. Transportation was interrupted between Kollapur and Pebber due to breaching of Ramapuram stream.

A ‘Toofan’ vehicle, travelling from Shaikpalli to Erravalli, washed away in flood waters en route as the driver failed to notice a breach across the temporary road. He lost control over the vehicle. However, the driver broke open the window glass and came out of the vehicle. People heaved a sigh of relief as there were no other passengers in the vehicle.

Torrential rains occurred in many places of Nizamabad and Medak districts. Farmers of the region expressed happiness over the showers. At a time when crops like Soya bean and corn are withering away due to poor rainfall, the farmers hope this rain may save their crops.

As many as 30 mandals in Warangal district against 51 have received good rainfall. As much as 12 per cent of rainfall in Parvathagiri and 2 per cent in the district is recorded. The officials said that 641 mm rainfall has been recorded so far.
Heavy rain lashed Ranga Reddy district. Parigi town was flooded and all the roads were inundated, including Beejapur- Hyderabad road, Market road and Gunj road. Rainwater entered several houses in the BC colony, Teachers colony and Santhinagar colony in the town.

However, in the backdrop of crops drying up due to poor rainfall in the recent past, people were ecstatic with the rainfall. Tahsildar Devja said that a rainfall of 16 cm was recorded. Along with the streams in other mandals, Peddavagu, Tumkulgadda vagu, Utupalli vagu, Doma vagu in Parigi constituency were in spate which were hitherto dried up.

On the road from Parigi to Vikarabad, Peddavagu was in spate since the wee hours of Wednesday. People coming to know that Pedavagu was in spate after a long time, visited the site in big numbers though it was raining heavily. Karimnagar and Adilabad districts witnessed showers with thunderstorms.
