Telangana Congress leader and Former Congress Minister DK Aruna along with former Telangana PCC chief Ponnala Lakshamaiah on Saturday undertook the two-day hunger strike to protest against the state government's methods in carving new districts.

The hunger strike is currently underway at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park in Hyderabad. DK Aruna who addressed the media on Friday stated that Wanaparthy was declared a district instead of Gadwal, even though the former lacked basic infrastructure.

While DK Aruna has been demanding the Telangana government for the formation of Gadwal as a new district, Ponnala Laxmaiah has been demanding to make Jangaon as a new district. The congress leaders slammed Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for not accepting the demand for Gadwal and Jangaon as the new districts.

Laxmaiah stated that the Chief Minister had promised district status for Jangaon during the election campaign but later was removed from the list.
