Hyderabad: Heavy rainfall in Hyderabad is likely to continue for the next three days leading to a flood like situation. Alwal, Bowenpally, Hakeempet and a few more low-lying areas remain water logged. GHMC survey showed that about 55 lakes in the city were breached.

The potholes and damage in the arterial areas of the city are causing distress to the commuters. The Telangana State government has hence requested the IT companies to let their employees work from home or allow them to take leave for a couple of days. “I have been working from home for a couple of days as it is very difficult to travel with potholes and flooding of water all around the city” said a 28-year-old Sathvik. For Joseph, an IT employee, it is stress-free and safer to stay back at home rather than risking his life by going to work. “The government has taken a wise decision by asking the college and schools to remain closed” said Ram, a lecturer.

On the contrary the labourers living in huts and pavements are facing misery as they are devoid of their shelters thus making their families come on to the roads. “Our huts are filled with drainage water and possibility of being prone to diseases is high. There is no proper food and water to drink and finding a place to sleep is getting even more difficult” said Laxmi, a daily wage labourer. With knee-deep water in the huts and streets it is hard to find a place to sit, cook or rest, said Aasha.

Rescue teams are trying to bring the situation under control by shifting homeless people to nearby government schools with a few basic amenities.

The higher officials of the government urged the general public not to venture out till the situation is under control and are taking necessary action against the various complaints lodged by the local residents.
