With water levels continuously rising in Godavari river due to the heavy rainfall, the flood situation deteriorated in Telangana on Sunday paralysing normal life. A high alert has been issued to the people in  low-lying areas to the banks the Godavari and is being evacuated to relief camps.

The state irrigation authorities released huge quantities of water from the projects in order to control the flood situation in Godavari and Krishna rivers. So far, 17 people have lost their lives in the floods and the water levels are reaching their peaks with the overflowing rivers, rivulets, and streams.

Many places across Telangana continued to receive heavy rainfall. 400 Army personnel were involved in the rescue of flood victims in the city on Saturday and relief material was provided while the residents were rescued from their houses filled with water with the help of ropes.

Six teams from the National Disaster Relief Management cleared the debris at Lingampally. Equipment including boats, relief packages, medicines has been placed at central points of the city for speedy distribution.

The Indian Air Force rescued 24 labourers on Sunday who were caught in floods in Medak district last night. Due to heavy rain, the rescue operation was called off and resumed on Sunday.
