Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy has appealed to the rank and file of Congress party to help the people in distress due to heavy rains in the State, particularly in Hyderabad. He has censured the State government for its failure in carrying out relief.

Speaking to media persons after visiting rain-affected areas of Alwal, Kukatpally and other areas on Saturday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said the TRS government's lethargic attitude had caused chaos in the city.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said the State government had failed to take measures to prevent inundation of low-lying areas. It also failed to provide required relief to those trapped in water-logged areas.

The situation clearly showed that no emergency plans were made after the Met Department issued warnings of heavy rains in the city.

At least now both KCR and KTR should rouse from the slumber and take immediate action to restore normalcy, he demanded.

He said the GHMC had been starved of funds under TRS regime and consequently, the routine desiltation of nalas and other works were not taken up before the onset of monsoon. This had proved disastrous for the people of Hyderabad, he said.

The TPCC chief demanded that the State government prepare a detailed estimate of losses caused due to heavy rains. He said special funds should be sanctioned to bring the city back into shape.
