Hyderabad: The State government is preparing an integrated action plan for the holistic development of Muslim minorities to be implemented during next three years. The government proposes to provide educational opportunities to the poor Muslims on par with corporate educational institutions and offer political and economical opportunities in proportion to the population of the community in the State.

The government also wants to increase the representation of Muslims in the legislative bodies and appoint more number of directors in corporations and other nominated bodies. It also proposes to make available interest free loans to the self employed.

Stating this after a four-hour long meeting with Muslim legislators and minority leaders of TRS at his farm house here on Tuesday, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said the minority residential (Gurukulams) established recently in the State were receiving overwhelming response as the demand for seats in the schools had increased in a short time.

He said that the government would set up 500 such institutions in the next four years. He said that measures were also being taken to contain dropout rates in the institutions and upgrade some schools as junior colleges. The government was already providing 100 per cent fee reimbursement to the minority students who joined professional courses, he added.

To strengthen the Muslims politically, KCR said that one Rajya Sabha seat would be given to the community during the biennial elections to be held next year. Some Corporation Chairmen and Director posts would also be reserved for them, he said, asserting that there was a need to increase Muslim representation in the Legislative bodies.

As the banks had stopped giving loans for self employment schemes, the Chief Minister said his government was making efforts to provide loans to the self employed youth on 90 per cent subsidy directly. A monitoring cell to oversee the implementation of all these schemes was also likely to be created, he added.
