Hyderabad: A day after Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said that the State financial position was sound, Opposition parties and the Telangana Joint Action Committee (T-JAC) have demanded that the government release a white paper on the finances of the State.

  • Ask why govt was dragging its feet on release of funds for welfare schemes
  • TJAC demands explanation from the govt for not releasing Arogyasri and fee dues

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, T-JAC Chairman Prof M Kodandaram said if the claims of the Chief Minister were true and if Telangana was a surplus State then it should explain why money for fee reimbursement was not being released. Apparently, the funds were diverted for some other purposes, he said.

He said that during the last budget, the government had allocated Rs 3,600 crore towards fee reimbursement but released a mere Rs 928 crore. The government had also failed to clear Rs 660 crore that is due to hospitals under Aarogyasri, resulting in these hospitals denying quality medicare to the poor and deprived sections of the society.

The State government also failed to release input subsidy to the farmers, Prof Kodandaram said, adding that the government should explain why it was not clearing the dues if Telangana was a surplus state.

Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Council, Mohammed Ali Shabbir asked why the government had not cleared dues of crop loan waiver scheme, pointing out that the government had cleared only 12.5 per cent of the loan amount so far.

Similarly, PRC arrears of nearly Rs. 4,000 crore were pending for the last 11 months. Not even 30 per cent of funds meant for SC, ST, BC, and minorities welfare were released so far, Shabbir Ali alleged. “If Telangana Government is financially sound, then where are the funds going?,” he wondered.

BJP leaders submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary demanding that the government clear the dues of the loan waiver scheme on a priority. A delegation of party leaders led by BJLP leader G Kishan Reddy also staged a dharna in front of C Block in Secretariat on Thursday. The BJP leaders demanded that the government release the input subsidy of Rs 791 crore, allotted by the Centre, immediately.
