Hyderabad: Editor-in-Chief of The Hans India and HMTV, Prof K Nageshwar, on Saturday urged students to think beyond the realm of possibilities while writing news stories and stated that the J-Hub was an opportunity to publish articles in print and web media platforms.

Addressing candidates at the orientation session of the J-Hub in the Department of Communication and Journalism here, he explained the modalities of the working of the J-Hub and said that it was a platform for students to hone their skills and make a career. Clarifying the notion that journalism as a profession pays meagre salaries, he pointed out that candidates with right skills were always well paid, he observed.

On advantages of being a journalist, Prof Nageshwar said journalism offered immense challenges and also job satisfaction. “Good journalists get connected to masses and earn fame,” he stated and added that the J-Hub would be completely practical oriented and candidates would be taken through the entire news writing process from idea to publication. Weekly review sessions would be held every Saturday from 10 am onwards in the Department, he added.

Prof K Stevenson, Head, Department of Communication & Journalism, welcomed the candidates and briefed the participants about the infrastructure - Television studio and the news lab. He highlighted the initiatives in the Department which launched its YouTube channel-Osmania Journalism, a separate website for J-Hub – Jhub.in to upload news items filed by candidates, and urged students to avail the facilities and build a portfolio to ease their entry into the media industry.

Prof B Balaswamy, a faculty, exhorted students to make use of these facilities and explore their innate talents. Later, a faculty, responded and clarified doubts among students from various colleges and students from the English and Foreign Languages University.
