Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma on Sunday requested the Central team, which had arrived here to examine the effect of the recent heavy rains in the state, to give substantial financial aid to Telangana, saying that the state had suffered a loss of Rs 2,740 crore.

The Chief Secretary explained the loss due to rains in various sectors through a power point presentation to the Central team. He said the state had suffered a loss of Rs 2,740 crore as houses were partially damaged while some came down, crops were inundated, electric transformers burnt and roads were badly eroded.

Giving department-wise details, he said that in the Municipal Administration the loss was Rs 848 crore, in Agriculture Rs 192 crore, in Irrigation Rs 112 crore and in Panchayat Raj the loss was Rs 290 crore.

Leader of the Central team and Union Home Department joint secretary Dilip Kumar said they would recommend substantial interim relief to the state. The team would visit Kamareddy, Sangareddy, Karimnagar and Siddipet districts on Monday to have estimate of the crop loss.
