Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma has directed the officials of Commercial Taxes Department to launch a special drive to realise the dues of Rs 1,194 crore.

Addressing a review meeting with the top officials of Commercial Taxes Department in the State Secretariat on Thursday, the Chief Secretary said that the demonetisation of higher currency notes had hit the State revenues. Therefore, the officials should focus on realising the dues and arrears.

He said all dealers should be reminded about dues through SMS or phone calls. He said a campaign should be launched to collect arrears in old notes till November 24.

The Chief Secretary also asked the officials to attach the properties of defaulters and sell them in open auctions through TSIIC, HMDA and Housing Board.

Meanwhile, Commercial Taxes Commissioner Anil Kumar said that the department has collected Rs 182 crore from November 9 to 16. He said that the department has registered a total of 3,244 cases and realised Rs 44 crore.
