Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is in the dark about the ongoing construction activity in the city. The officials claim that the staff on the ground was hand in glove with the builders and has been deliberately not recording the ongoing construction activity. There is every possibility that many of constructions could be illegal.

The GHMC in order curb the high-level corruption has decided to form special teams to indentify the list of constructions being executed and maintain a data base. The civic body officials warn that the erring officers may end up in jail if they do not coordinate with the special teams and provide the records of ongoing construction activity.

The GJMC is also mulling handing over the details of unauthorised constructions to Income Tax Department on the suspicion that most of them might have been constructed with the black money.

A senior town planning official told The Hans India that special teams have been asked to prepare a separate lists of ongoing constructions who have applied under building penalisation scheme (BPS) and the constructions where the builders or owners have sought and obtained the permission of GHMC prior to taking up construction activity. He said the civic body officials would also check the setbacks of the authorised constructions. He said if the officials would notice deviations in the ongoing construction they would cancel the building permission and if need be they would be demolished.

Besides this, the GHMC official also said the GHMC would hand over the data of all major unauthorised constructions to the Income Tax Department.
