Hyderabad: TDP Telangana unit President A Revanth Reddy on Thursday said that the government has identified only 51,000 applicants as eligible, out of 10.70 lakh applicants, under the two bedroom housing scheme in the state .

Addressing the press at TDLP office in the Assembly, the TDP leader said that in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) alone, 5.57 lakh applications were received but the corporation found only 42,817 families eligible and the number of beneficiaries in the districts was only 9,100.

He wondered why the government rejected 10.19 lakh applications and demanded to know on what grounds they were denied from availing the benefit.

Alleging that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao diverted the Central funds allotted for the housing scheme for poor, Revanth said the State had spent only Rs 14 crore out of Rs 1,000 crore earmarked under housing scheme in 2014-15 and no funds, out of Rs 873 crore were spent in 2015-16 financial year.

This year, the housing scheme has got a raw deal in the budget with nil allocations. The TDP leader demanded the government to make public the details of Rs 1,500 crore allocated by the Union government for the construction of houses as there was no clarity whether the funds were utilised or returned to the Centre.
