Warangal: In a bid to rein in expenditure, the State government is mulling over a plan to have the proposed outer ring roads (ORRs) of Warangal, Jangaon and Mahabubabad linked with the national highways passing through or close to these cities.

The government, which identified the potential of cities like Warangal, Karimnagar and Khammam to attract the investments if world-class road connectivity is provided, has already accorded administrative approvals to construct ORRs in these cities.

Despite the government has set a timeframe of three years to complete these projects, there is no forward movement on the proposal of 73-kilometer-long ORR around Warangal and other cities.

The government, which found that majority of entrepreneurs preferred to set up their units around Hyderabad due to its ORRs while ignoring other cities fearing congested roads, it’s learnt.

Against this backdrop, the government wants to speed up the construction of ORRs with an eye on minimising the spending on the projects. The plan is to link the ORRs to the existing and upcoming National Highways.

In case of Warangal, the ORR will be connected to the existing NH-163 (29-km stretch between Arepalli and Delhi public School near Karunapuram). This apart, the ORR will also use the proposed highway between Jagtial-Warangal-Khammam (extension of National Highway 563 up to NH-365 A in Khammam).

Likewise, the proposed ORR around Jangoan will be linked to NH-163 and Duddeda-Suryapet highway. On the other hand, Mahabubabad ORR will be linked to Bhupalpally-Narsampet highway and Bhadrachalam-Valigonda highway.

Speaking to The Hans India, Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA) Chairman Marri Yadava Reddy said: “Efforts are on to complete the ORR. The plan is to link the ORRs with the highways so that the expenditure could come down considerably.”

“It’s possible to reduce one-third of the burden on State’s exchequer, if meticulously planned to make use of existing and upcoming national highways in the region,” Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari said on Thursday at a meeting in Hyderabad,

while reviewing the ORRs of the three cities in undivided Warangal district. Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao directed the officials to focus on preparing new detailed project reports (DPRs) and land acquisition to expedite the works of ORRs.
