Hyderabad: Upping its ante on the issue of demonetisation, Congress will be organising a public meeting ‘Jana Avedhana Sammelanam’ which will be attended by party activists from across Telangana at Jayalaxmi Gardens at Trimulgherry on Friday.

AICC spokesperson and anti-demonetisation campaigner, Randeep Singh Surjewala, the party’s south in-charge and Karnataka’s power Minister D K Shivakumar and editors of renowned Telugu and Urdu dailies will speak on the occasion.

The national party which has been campaigning widely against the decision of demonetisation at district level for the past several weeks is expecting 5, 000 party activists for the programme.

The TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, who hoisted the National flag on the occasion of 68th Republic Day at Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday, alleged that the State and Central governments were not respecting the country’s Constitution and working against its spirit. He said the credit of achieving country’s freedom and granting separate State to Telangana goes to the Congress alone.

He said the Congress ruled the country and the State with Constitutional spirit and democracy values for decades. “But now there was scant respect for people’s opinion and autocratic rule was being imposed in State and at Centre,” he rued.
