Hyderabad: In a major step towards addressing the Krishna water dispute between two states , Justice Brijesh Kumar Tribunal on Tuesday instructed Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh governments to file their views on allocation of water project wise and objections on operational protocol of the projects under river Krishna before the Tribunal by March 20.

The two states were also asked to attend hearing and arguments being conducted on the issue on March 23 and 24 in Delhi. It may be mentioned here that Supreme Court had recently struck down the petition filed by the TS government challenging the Tribunal’s recent verdict on distribution of 1,004 tmcft allotted to undivided AP State among residuary AP and Telangana States.

After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana government has been demanding fresh allocation of Krishna water between four States, including upper riparian Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Official sources in the State Irrigation Department said the government would present a detailed report on the allocation of water and the utilisation of the same for the past 60 years.

The government would strongly argue the spirit behind the formation of Telangana State under AP Reorganisation Act which was not taken into account in water allocation.
