Hyderabad: Just like Hyderabad has Hitec City to be showcased, the state government wants to develop various cities like sports city, cinema city, educational city, textile city, poultry city, automobile city, pharma city, recreation city and health city in various districts.

The State Government proposes to identify the places in municipalities which have great potential for rapid growth with available local resources.

Basic infrastructure facilities like road, rail and air connectivity, historical background and local natural resources are being taken into consideration to promote the urban local bodies (ULBs) as centre’s of excellence in different categories.

Khammam Recreation City
Warangal Textile City
Suryapet Poultry City
Jangaon Sheep City
Ranga Reddy Cinema City

For instance, Khammam district has huge potential to be promoted as recreation city because of abundant tourist spots.

Warangal has already been identified as textile city in the state and plans for several industrial projects have been prepared. Similarly, Suryapet and Jangaon municipalities have the scope of being promoted for poultry and sheep rearing industry.

The government is planning to promote agro-based industries in and around the two municipalities by exploiting the adequate natural resources. Similarly, the cinema city is likely to come up in RRdistrict.

The officials of the MAUD department told The Hans India that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao wants to promote every urban local body as a centre of excellence by decentralising the development process which would also ensure providing employment at local level and curb the migration to Hyderabad.

In 2014 election manifesto, KCR had accorded top priority to decentralisation of development by promoting municipalities as development zones.

Even if one urban body is promoted as world class town in a district, it would help in fast pace development of entire district.

Officials said that the department is preparing a detailed report about each municipality, including prospects of future development in different categories.

Based on the report, the government would create development zones. Private partners would be involved to develop world class towns.

The government would develop basic infrastructure. Depending on the outcome of the report, the government is planning to earmark some funds for the purpose in the ensuing 2017-18 budget proposals to be presented in February end this year.
