Hyderabad: The Congress on Tuesday sought market intervention from State government, towards addressing woes of red-chilli farmers. Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, former MP and TPCC spokesperson Mallu Ravi pointed out that the government had prevented farmers from sowing cotton and had encouraged cultivation of chillies and red gram this khariff season.

However, the farmers who followed the government’s suggestion were left alone to fend for themselves. “Farmers are committing suicide and protesting on roads, as they are unable to get MSP. When compared to the earlier Congress government, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) regime has completely failed to ensure good price for the farmers,” he said.

While referring to the government’s claim that Telangana was surplus State, he questioned as to how the State remained in 2nd position in terms of farmer’s suicides. He noted that the TRS government which promised Market Intervention Fund had failed to keep its promise.
