Songs of Telangana agitation and traditional dance forms will kick-start Osmania University Centenary Celebrations on April 26. The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, is expected to arrive at 12:30 pm but songs and dances will begin from 10:30 am onwards and will continue till his arrival. Cultural programmes will commence at 6:30 pm and go on till 9 pm. 

The celebrations that will kick off on April 26 will last for a whole year till April 25 next year

Hyderabad: Songs of Telangana agitation and traditional dance forms will kick-start Osmania University Centenary Celebrations on April 26. The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, is expected to arrive at 12:30 pm but songs and dances will begin from 10:30 am onwards and will continue till his arrival. Cultural programmes will commence at 6:30 pm and go on till 9 pm.

Cultural programmes are planned on all three days from 6:30 pm. Mamidi Hari Krishna, Director, Department of Language & Culture, said, “All cultural programmes have been designed based on the theme 100. In several dance forms and songs, 100 artistes will perform.”

Perini Thandavam, an ancient dance form from Telangana will be performed with 50 female dancers accompanied by 50 male dancers. Warsi Brothers will also perform Qawali. All the cultural performances will begin with Osmania University students’ performances. There is a sizable number of foreign students who will also showcase the cultures of their countries.

About 200 artistes would also walk from the NCC Gate to the Arts College showcasing their art forms a la carnival style. Sare Jahan Se Acha, the famous song would be sung by 100 singers. Osmania University authorities are leaving no stone unturned to make the celebrations a grand success.

People without entry passes would not be able to enter the arena. Even former students and existing students have been asked to register online to generate entry passes. Parking arrangements have been taken care of and the route map along with designated parking areas is printed on the flip side of the invitation card.

LED screens would be kept at every 80 feet so that people who are unable to get inside the A Grounds could watch the inaugural session. About 15,000 people are expected to assemble at the grounds on April 26.

Apart from chief guest Pranab Mukherjee, Telangana Governor E S L Narasimham, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, Rajya Sabha MP K Keshava Rao and Hyderabad Mayor Bonthu Rammohan would grace the occasion.

The State government released Rs 50 crore for the celebrations and the university has also sent a proposal for Rs 300 crore grant from HRD Ministry which was recommended by the State government. OU vice chancellor Prof S Ramachandram said he was expecting to hear positive news from the Centre regarding this.

OU centenary celebrations will start on April 26, 2017 and will culminate on April 25, 2018. “We are planning a series of events all through the year,” said Prof H Venkateshwarlu, Special Officer, Centenary Celebrations. In December, a global alumni meet is going to be held at OU
