Hyderabad: Hyderabad Mayor Bonthu Rammohan said that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) would provide basic infrastructure for sports by developing vacant places as play grounds across the city.

Rammohan was inaugurating the GHMC prestigious summer coaching camps at Chadarghat Victory Play Grounds here on Monday. GHMC Commissioner Dr B Janardhan Reddy was also present. Speaking on the occasion, Rammohan said the GHMC had initiated steps to transform Hyderabad city into Sports City as there were already national and international level stadiums in the city.

The GHMC would allocate more funds to develop vacant places across the city as playgrounds. He said the GHMC was contemplating to set up playgrounds in vacant places belonging to private firms. He reminded that the GHMC had special identity across the nation in organising summer coaching camps and the players, who started their sports career from summer coaching camps, emerged as national and international champs.

Speaking on the occasion, Janardhan Reddy said 2,065 national, international and senior coaches extended their services in the summer coaching camps and children from six years to 16 were eligible for these camps. The camps will start at 6 am and end at 8 am every day. He said the GHMC was expecting that some 1.5 lakh children would participate in the camps.

In Hyderabad city alone, there are 521 playgrounds, seven swimming pools, 13 sports complexes, seven roller skating rings and five tennis courts. He said admission would be given to children with minimal fee. The Mayor released Summer Coaching Camp-2017 issue on the occasion.
