Hyderabad: In the wake of the Union government sending back the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Telangana Amendment) Act, 2016, derived from the Central Land Acquisition Act, 2013, the Congress on Thursday urged the State government to hold an all-party meeting to find better solution.

Addressing a media conference here on Thursday, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir said if Telangana wanted to bring forth a better Act, it should discuss the issue with all political parties and experts on land issues in this regard.

He said the credit should go to the Congress government for coming up with the Act in 2013, which the Modi government had failed to implement for the benefit of the farming community.

He said the hasty passage of the amendments to the land Bill by the State government had led to hurdles in helping farmers.

“There is no harm if there is slight delay in making necessary changes to the land Act. Instead of rushing through the amendments, the government should first consult the Opposition,” he said.

Commenting on the centenary celebrations of Osmania University, the senior Congress leader lamented that the government had failed to recognise the contribution of the Nizam’s family for the growth of education and Osmania University. “The Vice chancellor and the State government should tender a public apology,” he quipped.
