Hyderabad: IT Minister K T Rama Rao on Monday said the youngest State of Telangana was number one in the country in cashless transactions and in providing e-governance services to the people. Telangana State was treading fast in the IT sector and making rapid strides at national level, he said.

The Minister was addressing the 9th anniversary of IT and Communication Department at HICC here. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the government was trying its best to make at least one member of a family to become digitally literate as part of its digital programme.

The government, he said, would provide safe and potable water to rural population. Indeed, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government had taken up the flagship programme of Mission Bhagiratha to provide safe drinking water to every household and also fiber grid broadband internet services simultaneously Rama Rao said. “We will provide basic amenities to the people who ought to get them,” he added.

The IT Minister announced that the State government was all set to launch a comprehensive new policy for digital literary promotion in a big way. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was keen on promoting IT sector and its related companies, he said, adding that the Chief Minister wanted to extend its services to the forefront of people.

The IT Minister also said they were working out a plan to install 3,000 public Wi-Fi hotspots, out of which 1,000 would be set up by June end. Telangana witnessed the highest number of online transactions post demonetisation, he said.

Telangana is the first state to promote digital and cashless transactions in the wake of demonetisation across the nation. As far as technology is concerned, T –Hub in Hyderabad is the biggest centre in the country with 200 start-up companies, he claimed.

The IT Minister said that entrepreneurs were being encouraged through the T-Hub which was in the forefront to encourage them to come up with new ideas. Efforts were being made to see that the youth got boost in future to get jobs and employment opportunities through the T-Hub and start-up companies.

Telangana was occupying the second position in the country in open data policy, offering seamless services to the people through 4,000 customer service centres, Rama Rao said.

He said the government was also actively collaborating with ICRISAT on a lot of initiatives, adding that one important initiative was the digital agriculture drive, which aimed to provide technology solutions to farmers.
