Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy on Tuesday directed the Zonal Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners in coordination with Urban Forestry and Horticulture officials to identify open places, locations and new spots for the development of parks in twin cities.

​Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy on Tuesday directed the Zonal Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners in coordination with Urban Forestry and Horticulture officials to identify open places, locations and new spots for the development of parks in twin cities.

In this connection the Commissioner held a review meeting with the Additional Commissioner (Urban Biodiversity), ZCs, DCs and senior officials of Biodiversity, Engineering wings on the overall development of parks in the GHMC limits.

Commissioner said the government has fixed one crore plantations as an action plan for Haritha Haram programme, 2017 in GHMC jurisdiction with open space plantation, avenue plantation, green curtain, green ways, institutional plantation, and distribution of Homestead Plants. In all, the one crore plantation is likely to be taken up this year for the Haritha Haram programme.

He further added that the GHMC is planning to develop and maintain major parks, city level parks, theme parks, colony parks by providing path ways, play equipment for children of all age groups, and also to maintain the ecological balance and to the reduce pollution levels.

These developed parks will be handed over to the respective Residential Welfare Associations (RWAs) and Colony Welfare Associations (CWAs) for further maintenance. The GHMC shall pay 75 per cent of maintenance cost and the balance 25 per cent shall be borne by the RWAs and CWAs.
