Hyderabad: All the heads of the government schools in the State have been instructed by Commissioner of School Education that the mid-day meal should be served to the students from June 12. The School Education Commissioner G Kishan said that the headmasters should ensure that the menu of the meal is displayed prominently on the school premises.

He said that the mid-day meal should be served as per the menu and students should be given egg thrice in a week and the agencies have to give written agreements for prompt supply of eggs. The headmasters should send the details of the meal served in the schools through SMS every day without fail to the School Education Department. Parents and school committees should be involved in implementing the scheme, he said.

The Commissioner also issued instructions that meal committees be formed with the students. Rice and other commodities used for the scheme should be weighed in the presence of the committee members and details be recorded in the registers. The headmaster would be made responsible if there are discrepancies between the stock in the registers and the actual stock in the schools.

He further said that the headmaster or the teachers should first taste the meal before serving it to the children and only hot meal should be supplied. The signatures of those who tasted the food should be registered in the ‘Taste registers’.

Precautions should be taken to prevent any contamination in the meal and the drinking water, he added.Meal should be cooked in clean utensils, plates of the students should be clean. Meal should be served in a clean area, and it should be ensured that students wash their hands before and after the meal.
