Hyderabad: Congress party on Saturday reiterated its demand that the investigation into land scam that rocked the State be entrusted to the CBI.Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Mohammed Shabbir Ali at a media conference here said the land scam has assumed enormousproportions by the day and now the name of the TRS Secretary General K Keshav Rao’s family members has sprung up.

There are also allegations that Damodar Rao, who is related to the Chief Minister, is also involved in the scam. He wondered why the Chief Minister has been maintaining silence over the issue. Shabbir Ali, along withCLP Deputy Floor Leader in Assembly TJeevan Reddy andformer MP Madhu Yakshi Goud, allegedthat CID and ACB had failed in busting the cases, such as cash for vote, Eamcet question paper leakage, Allair police encounter and Nayeem’s criminal activities.

The government, he said, appearedto be trying to hush up scam. It perhaps felt that after few days everyone would forget about it. He also alleged that even the Governor was not giving appointment to the party leaders to meet the latter and submit a memorandum. The Congress leaderswanted to meet the Governor and submit a memorandum, demanding a CBI probe.

Madhu Yashki said in view of these developments they were now contemplating taking legal measures. The Congress leaders said the government had failed on all fronts. On the one hand it was neck deep in land scam and on the other it was neglecting the farmers. So far no action has been taken against those who peddled spurious seeds.

Farmers have been committing suicide because of the government’s anti-farmer policies. They recalled that a farmer had even attempted suicide in front of Chief Minister’s office in Secretariat. The government, they said, had taken up special programme to develop fisheries in the State, but the seed they had supplied had deadly bacteria resulting in the large number of fish dying in tanks and lakes.
