Hyderabad: Encroachments of lands abutting lakes, water bodies and canals will attract penal action under PD Act, Minister for Irrigation and Marketing T Harish Rao, on Sunday, warned. Along with Transport Minister Mahender Reddy, Harish Rao inaugurated a vegetable shop “Mana Kuragayalu” (Our Vegetables) under Agriculture Marketing Department at Bhandari Layout at Nizampet.

Speaking to media persons on the occasion, the Mminister said that complaints were received that some persons are trying to grab the land of the lakes and canals. Such acts will not be spared and the encroachers of such lands will be thrown behind bars and will not get bail for three years. The Government, he said, will take stringent action against such elements which are coming in the way of development.

‘We are launching Mana Kuragayalu shops to ensure that the prices of vegetables in the markets are under control,’’ he said. Fresh vegetables procured from farmers are being shifted to these shops and people can get the vegetables at minimum prices. This will prove handy for both farmers and the people. The Minister also launched a similar vegetable shop at Farm Meadows at Kompally of Kutbullapur mandal in Medchal district
