Hyderabad: Political scientist KanchaIlaiah on Friday demanded that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government convene Assembly to pass a resolution stating that the State cannot implement the Central government's ban on sale of cattle for slaughter.

Addressing a press conference on behalf of the Telangana Intellectuals Forum at SundarayyaVignana Kendra, the Dalit scholar said the TRS government had proposed to provide 12 per cent reservations to Muslims in the State. The Muslims livelihood is dependent on the trade of cattle meat and the new law by the Centre prohibits this trade. People in Telangana consume beef and the Centre's order has affected the sale of the cattle.

He said the TRS government should convene a special session of the Assembly and pass a resolution stating that it cannot implement the ban on cattle sale. He said the Kerala government had also opposed the Centre's orders on the cattle ban. He further added that because of the Centre's ban, the markets are not able to sell their cattle, as there is no officer to certify if the cattle is fit for farming or not.

KanchaIlaiah also demanded that the government cancel the intermediate education system. He said the intermediate education these days has been privatised and has become costlier. He demanded that all the political parties exert pressure on the government to follow the worldwide practice of schools having 12th standard. He also wanted the government to have both English and Telugu medium in schools.

P L Vishweshwar Rao alleged that the TRS is a feudal organisation and that there is neither democracy nor any secularism in Telangana. He took exception to the closing down of 4,000 schools in the State and said, “We are told that there is drop out but the students are driven away. Telangana is backward in many aspects including literacy and women empowerment.

The school dropoutin the State is more than Bihar,” alleged Vishweshwar Rao. He also took exception for TRS supporting the NDA Presidential candidate RamNath Kovind, and stated that he was an RSS functionary.
