Hyderabad: The two constables, whose video clip highlighting efforts to keep prayer mats intact during Eid prayers at EidgahMiralam went viral and attracted media attention, were felicitated by both ruling party and Congress on Saturday.

R Venkatesh Naik and V Pratap Singh posted at Kalapather police station were felicitated by Deputy CM, Mohammed Mahmood Ali at his Ministers’ quarters.

Speaking on the occasion, Mahmood Ali said that Telangana police stood as a role model and the two constables they were helping reinforcing the strength of communal amity in the State.

He said that the humility they had displayed had sent a clear message of friendly policing amongst the population.

Earlier during the day, the Leaders of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Assembly and Council K Jana Reddy and Mohammed Ali Shabbir presented a cash prize of Rs 5,000 to each of the constables as part of felicitation at TCLP office.

Speaking on the occasion, Shabbir Ali said that both the constables had displayed exemplary dedication in protecting paper mats on July 26on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers.

“Both constables had set new standards of communal amity which should be followed by all to respect the sentiments of other religions, “ he said.

The Congress leaders had also lauded the efforts of Hyderabad Commissioner of Police Mahender Reddy and his team for making fool-proof security arrangements uringRamzan and Eid in the City.

“Hyderabad has always been a role model of communal harmony and peaceful co-existence of all communities,” he added.

He said that the cash reward was only a token of appreciation to the two constables for their gesture, which sent positive vibes amongst the people.
