HMDA takes up lane marking on ORR

​Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) officials finally wake up and decided to make lane markings on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) after the death of 53 persons in the past six months. The HMDA, along with traffic officials, felt that the absence of lane markings has resulted in most of the accidents on the ORR.

Apart from lane markings, the HMDA will soon take up Raised Pavement Markers (RPM) on ORR for the safety of commuters. The officials will also add three ambulances and three patrolling vehicles to the existing eight vehicles for usage during emergencies.

Due to absence of lane markings, as many as 126 persons died in accidents at various spots on the ORR during the last three years. As many as 55 persons had lost their lives this year making the ORR a death trap. In the last three months, 40 accidents were reported between Gachibowli-Shamshabad.

The HMDA officials have now decided to embark on lane marking work on Gachibowli-Shamshabad and Patancheru-Pedda Amberpet stretches. The project will be taken with an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore. These road markings and edge lines are some of the measures to control vehicular traffic; to reduce accidents and to have control over the road users.

A senior HMDA official said that the lane marking work has already been taken up on Gachibowli – Shamshabad stretch and from Patancheru to Pedda Amberpet. He also said that the lane markings which were made in 2010 were eventually vanished.

He said that the present lane marking will have the night visibility also. The official said that with the help of these lane marking, the commuters can identify the edge of the road and it would alert the driver.
