Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao is all set to create a record of sorts. The minister will be holding a non-stop 24-hour meeting with top Irrigation officials at Jala Saudha, the head office of Irrigation Department, on Saturday.

The meeting would begin at around 10 am and conclude on Sunday. Secretaries, Engineer -in- Chiefs of Major and Medium Irrigation projects and Chief Engineers of all projects have been summoned to attend the marathon “in-camera meeting” where the minister would finalise an action plan for the completion of ongoing irrigation projects at fast pace and set new targets for the officials.

The officials have been instructed to submit a status report on each project which comes under their jurisdiction and also identify the hurdles hampering the projects. Harish Rao would discuss with the officials in detail the progress in land acquisition for the ongoing major and medium irrigation project and legal hurdles faced by the department.

State Special Secretary to Irrigation SK Joshi, Engineer-in-Chief (Irrigation), Secretary Vikas Raj, Engineer-in-Chief (Irrigation) C Muralidhar Rao and 15 Chief Engineers of the projects would attend the meeting.

This is the first-of-its-kind marathon meeting organised by any Irrigation minister. No such meeting was held even in the united Andhra Pradesh, a senior official told The Hans India. Arrangements for the meeting have already being made to provide refreshments to the officials.

Each official will make a presentation on the progress of their project. The officials would also have to give explanation for the delay in the works, if any, during interaction. Based on the outcome, the minister and secretary would ascertain the efficiency of each official and assign bigger tasks to the capable officials in the coming days. “Rejig of the entire Irrigation department is also not ruled out after the meeting,” said a senior official.

Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao is keen to complete all the projects in a scheduled time-frame and create one crore acres of ayacut before next elections as promised by him.
