Hyderabad: Despite issuing a notification about a year ago, the State government had not yet filled vacant posts in District Consumer Forums (DCFs) across Telangana. As per the Act, there should be one woman member in each of the district forums and in State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.

Around 20 posts of members have been vacant in all the district forums in the State. Meanwhile, many aspirants have applied for the post of members in the district forums.

As per the norms, a test has to be conducted by the Commission to select the members. Based on results of the test and after interviewing the candidates, the Commission has to send the names to the government for appointing them as members. The lengthy process is yet to begin. An aspirant Rammohan, who applied for the post of member, said he had been waiting for the exam but there is no indication as to when it would be conducted.

An Advocate said as per the Consumer Protection Act, the State Commission has to fill the vacant posts well in advance i.e. before the completion of the tenure of working members and president.

Speaking to The Hans India, N Srinivas, Chairman, Confederation of All Telangana Consumer Organisations (CATCO), requested the Telangana government to immediately fill up the vacant posts of members for speedy disposal of consumer cases. According to sources, due to lack of members, several cases are pending and the consumers are facing several problems.
