Uttam Kumar Reddy ridiculed the contention of Rajanna-Sircilla district administration that the Sircilla Junior College ground could not be used to hold a political meeting.

Hyderabad: Condemning the denial of permission for ‘Chalo Sircilla’ protest meeting scheduled on July 31, the Congress has moved the High Court.

Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday, TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Congress party had applied for permission about a week ago to hold a public meeting at Sircilla Junior College grounds on July 31.

However, the police rejected the application on Friday night and the Congress party was informed about the same on Saturday afternoon

"This was done at the instance of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao's office. This is nothing but an attempt to suppress the voice of Dalits and BCs who were subjected to illegal detention and torture in open violation of their human rights," he said.

The meeting was to be addressed by former Speaker of Lok Sabha Meira Kumar, who will also meet the affected families in Ramchandrapuram, Nerella and Jillela villages.

The TPCC president informed that the party has already moved a House Motion in Hyderabad High Court seeking permission to hold the protest meeting. He expressed confidence that the High Court would do justice by granting permission for the proposed meeting.

Uttam Kumar Reddy ridiculed the contention of Rajanna-Sircilla district administration that the Sircilla Junior College ground could not be used to hold a political meeting.

He pointed out that several prominent leaders including former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, former Chief Ministers Marri Chenna Reddy and Y S Rajashekhara Reddy and even present CM KCR had addressed the meetings from the same ground.

He alleged that by denying permission, the Chief Minister not only wants to suppress the inhuman incident that occurred in the constituency represented by his son K T Rama Rao, but was also trying to shield the 'sand mafia' which is being run in connivance with KCR's family members.

He accused KCR of treating police department as his personal entity. He said that the meeting is proposed to be held at 5 PM in the evening and therefore, it would not disturb the college students.

He also demanded that the government provide adequate compensation to the displaced villagers of Uddandapur, Jadcherla under Palamuru-Ranga Reddy project. He warned that the Congress would fight for those who are affected, if the government fails to provide compensation to villages spread across 6,000 acres of land.

Govt castigated

Meanwhile, TPCC SC Department Vice-Chairman A V Swamy castigated the TRS government for turning blind towards atrocities against Dalits, BCs, women and other underprivileged sections of society.

Swamy appealed to the people to participate in large number in Meira Kumar’s protest programmes to be held at Sircilla on July 31. He said the Congress will not cowed down by TRS govt’s strong-arm tactics against the protesting organisations.
