Lok Sabha Speaker launches sisters4change website
Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Friday launched the website www.sisters4change.org, an initiative by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MP K Kavitha, to save young lives being lost due to accidents across the country. The initiative, a brainchild of Kavitha, prods women to donate quality helmets to their brothers on Raksha Bandhan day apart from tying rakhis on their hands.
New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Friday launched the website www.sisters4change.org, an initiative by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MP K Kavitha, to save young lives being lost due to accidents across the country.
The initiative, a brainchild of Kavitha, prods women to donate quality helmets to their brothers on Raksha Bandhan day apart from tying rakhis on their hands.
Sumitra Mahajan hailed the initiative and said the tremendous response received on social media should prompt people to take up the issue seriously in view of the large number of deaths in accidents.
Kavitha said about 400 precious lives were being lost every day due to bike accidents which accounted for 29 per cent of all fatal accidents in 2015 itself leading to 45,540 lives being lost. She said the reason behind the awareness campaign was to encourage people to wear helmets.
